Coping Strategies Adopted by Adolescent Girls Living in an Orphanage and with their Families to Cope with the Problems of Adolescence
Abstract
Objective: The current study aims to determine whether there are differences between the adolescent problems experienced and coping strategies adopted by the teenagers aged at 11-19 living in an orphanage and those living with their families in the west of our country.
Method: In the current study, an 11-item personal information form, a 55-item Adolescent Problem Survey List and a 54-item Scale of Adolescents’ Coping with their Problems were used to collect data. In the analysis of the data, Normality Test, Independent Samples t test, Mann Whitney U test were used.
Results: The Adolescent Problem Survey List, it was found that the most problems experienced by the adolescents living in the orphanage are in the sub-dimension of psychological development problems (8.25±2.15) and this is followed by the sub-dimension of opinions and ambitions regarding future (6.11±1.15).
Conclusion: The adolescents living in the orphanage do not give up in the face a problem and try to develop themselves to cope with the problem and this is a good behavior that needs to be supported.
